The London Hunt Club 125th Anniversary Event

Saturday, June 12, 2010

On a warm and cloudy day, the allotted thirty hickory hackers took to the fairways
to demonstrate their hickory golfing skills for the members of The London Hunt Club.

Four London Hunt members joined us, including 88 year old Emerson Creed,
a living legend in Ontario golf circles.
As both a player and administrator, Mr. Creed is a leader and role model for those who know him.
On this day, he was a big factor in the first place finish of the Paul Dietz foursome.
Paul, in fact, frequently caddied for Mr. Creed as a teenager,
when Emerson was competively active.

From 9:30 to 11:15, there was an antique golf  show in the clubhouse
followed by tee times beginning at eleven thirty.
Following the golf, a fine sitdown dinner was enjoyed in a diningroom overlooking the tenth fairway.

The results of the day were announced and book prizes were given out .
The scores were remarkably close, among the eight teams.
The spread from top to bottom was only seven shots with all teams under par of 72.

Here are the results......

First -- a tie at 64
Paul Dietz, Wayne Baigent, Susan Holliday, Emerson Creed
and
Peter Johnson, Wayne Linton, Pat Mihm

Third -- a tie at 65
Bill Truppe, John Bennet, John Duffy, Paul Sorley
and
Kevin Reilly, Jason Miller, Jim Palk

Fifth -- a tie at 67
Ian Marshall, Bill Stewart, Don Zeigler, John Kalbfleish
and
Paul Winslow,Walt Soetans, Ken Hopkins, Judy Hopkins

Seventh -- at 69
Tom Miller, Barry Deathe, Ron Dunn, Al Hughes

Eighth -- at 71
Gerry Atchtymichuk, Doug Marshall, Craig Blair, Adrienne Blair

All in all a very successful and enjoyable day was had by all.
Many thanks to the Hunt Club for inviting  us to share in their celebration

The National Hickory Championship
June 12 -- 13
White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia

The Ontario Hickory Tour / Golf Historical Society of Canada had four Canadian representatives
participating in this year's National Hickory Championship,
played at Oakhurst Golf Links, in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia.
OPEN DIVISION (Gross scores)
Jim Wilhelm shot 169 to finish fourth.
Hugh Cameron shot 170 to finish fifth.
Bob Sly, the defending champion, shot 175 to finish eighth.
RESERVE DIVISION (Played with handicap)
Dr. Bob West shot 146 net to finish eighth.
Congratulations boys!
I have suggested a Canada vs. USA match for next year,
similar to the clan match already played the day before the event.
