On Monday August 21st 2017 twenty eight GHSC players and various friends, family and guests gathered at Merry Hill Golf Club, Breslau, Ontario for a Hickory Hackers scramble.
The weather was fine and sunny, but the heat was moderated by a pleasant breeze. The solar eclipse took place during play, appearing as nothing more than a slight dimming of the sunlight.
The course was in fine condition, and was much appreciated by the players.
Amongst those playing was Tony Matlock, who is a long time GHSC member, and who is also the architect who designed the Merry Hill course we were playing.
After play, we enjoyed refreshment, and perused the items on display at the trade tables.
A dinner of chicken and various salads was served, with butter tarts for dessert.
The scores were reviewed. I believe all of the teams managed to beat par.
Winners were the team made up of event organizers Bill Stewart and Bill Southall, with Frank Collis (our photographer for the day, with assistance from his wife), and John Kirstien.
Runners up were the first group off the tee, Vaughn Perusse, Rossana Cossaro, Gerald Achtymichuk, and J. Holland.
2nd runners up were Bill Kent, A. Chandler, Eric Reid, and Peter McPhedran.
Thanks to Frank Collis for his fine pictures of this event (see below).
