The first GHSC hickory scramble of 2019 was played at Cambridge GC, Cambridge, Ontario on Thursday May 30th 2019.
This was another one where the weather forecasts leading up to the event were most discouraging, predicting pretty much rain all day, at one point. However, as it turned out, the weather was excellent for golf, with some cloud, a little sun, and temperatures around 20. We felt the odd raindrop here and there... but it was never more than the odd drop.
Despite the lack of encouragement from the weather forecasters, 32 players turned up and teed off, and 4 additional guests joined us for dinner.
The course was in great shape, and I believe an enjoyable time was had by all the players. Quite a few of the day's players were guests new to hickory play.
Results were as follows:
|1||-7||Lorne Emery, John Hubert, Frank Nordquist, Mike Groothuis|
|2||-6||Paul Dietz, Dave Finn, Wayne Finn, Dave Brownlee|
|3||-6||Bill Southall, Bill Stewart, Rob Stephens, Brian Snell|
|4||-4||Rick Harper, Kathy Harper, Ian Clarke, Dave Burgess|
|5||-3||Vern Petry, Ron Wiens, Phil Kostandoff, Peter McPhedran|
|6||-3||Ken Leedham, Frank Hall, Patti Coulter, Russell Dick|
|7||-2||Ron Archer, Hendrick Vandergeld, Tony Matlock, Wayne Linton|
|8||+1||Gerald Achtymichuk, Chris Cade, Fran Troccia, Gord Kaardahl|
After golf, participants enjoyed a convivial time in the pleasant clubhouse. Several trade tables were set up, and a number of folks went away with new clubs, or other treasures.
The day concluded with a fine steak dinner, courtesy of club chef Frank Nordquist - who also joined us as a player for the day.
Thanks to our photographers for the day, Frank Collis, who has done wonderful work for us at so many events, and event organizer Lorne Emery.
